Scharmien Zandi is an independent artist working across music, performance and multimedia. Her current artistic research focuses on computer-based and computer-generated music as well as contemporary compositional practices. The core of her work lies in AI music, IR music following Kurt Hofstetter, experimental music theatre and multimedia installations.

She works as a composer, performance artist, musician and actress, and is currently collaborating with renowned institutions such as the Schauspielhaus Wien and the Landestheater Tirol. Previous collaborations include the MusikTheater an der Wien and the Landestheater Niederösterreich. Her works and installations have been presented internationally, including in Beijing, Vienna and New York.

In 2020, Zandi received the Austrian Music Theatre Award in the category Best Off Production for her show AMOUR FOU. In 2022, she was awarded the Start Grant for Music and Performing Arts by the Austrian Federal Ministry for Arts, Culture, the Civil Service and Sport (BMKÖS). She developed the format of opera performance, is President of the International Academy of Arts Vienna (iAKW) and co-founded the artist collective D#AVANTGARDE – new technology, art and creativity.

Scharmien Zandi ist eine freischaffende Künstlerin in den Bereichen Musik, Performance und Multimedia. Ihre aktuelle künstlerische Forschung basiert auf computerbasierter und computergenerierter Musik sowie auf zeitgenössischen Kompositionsformen. Der Schwerpunkt ihrer Arbeit liegt auf AI Music, IR Music nach Kurt Hofstetter, experimentellem Musiktheater sowie multimedialen Installationen.

Sie arbeitet als Komponistin, Performancekünstlerin, Musikerin und Schauspielerin und kooperiert derzeit mit renommierten Institutionen wie dem Schauspielhaus Wien und dem Landestheater Tirol. Zuvor arbeitete sie u. a. mit dem MusikTheater an der Wien sowie dem Landestheater Niederösterreich zusammen. Ihre Werke und Installationen wurden unter anderem in Peking, Wien und New York präsentiert.

Im Jahr 2020 wurde Zandi mit dem Österreichischen Musiktheaterpreis in der Kategorie Beste Off-Produktion für ihre Show AMOUR FOU ausgezeichnet. 2022 erhielt sie das Startstipendium für Musik und darstellende Kunst des BMKÖS. Sie entwickelte die Form der Opernperformance, ist Präsidentin der Internationalen Akademie der Künste Wien (iAKW) und Mitbegründerin des Künstlerkollektivs D#AVANTGARDE – new technology, art and creativity.
